The BookJam Uses Real Books

Alan believes that reading really begins with a good book. That’s why the books he selected for the BookJam are novels that students have already weighed in on with an enthusiastic “YES!” Many of these books have also been given some of the most prestigious awards in young adult literature, including the Coretta Scott King Award and the Newbery Medal. Kids want to read real books. In fact, many kids today are reading real books outside of school. Alan believes that when your students are really enjoying literature, it’s going to be a lot easier to teach core literacy skills and raise academic performance.
