The Power of Audio and Recorded Books

by Alan Sitomer
Audio Tools A special relationship exists between listening and reading. (Goodness, as a child my grandfather read to me in such a way that I can still hear his voice today.)

The fact is study after study has proven that using tools such as audiobooks to guide literacy instruction can be a magnificent way to open doors of accessibility to the text for students at every ability level.
This is why I include an unabridged audio recording of each of the novels in the BookJam, so that the immense possibilities of audiobooks can be exploited and tapped into in your classroom.

Use the audio for whole-class read-alongs, small-group think-pair-shares, or to allow struggling or ELL students to gain better access to the text. (The world of audiobooks has evolved in such a way that the excellence of the narrators is truly something your ears should behold.) Audiobooks and reading aloud help students become better readers ... that's why I provide them.
