Prince Frederick, MD—February 19, 2009—Three-time Teacher of the Year Alan Sitomer is incorporating his teaching tactics, proven to work in his own inner-city Los Angeles classroom, into a new English Language Arts curriculum product. This acclaimed author for young adults has teamed with Recorded Books to bring his award-winning teaching skills to schools across the country through The BookJam.

From 2004 – 2007, the California Department of Education, Lynwood High School, and UCLA’s Institute for Democracy, Education, and Access, collected data on the California High School Exit Exam. The data showed that Sitomer’s English Language Arts students at Lynwood High School had at least a 35% higher passing rate than other English Language Arts students at his school, and a passing rate of at least 18% higher than the entire state of California. In 2007, 96% of Sitomer’s 10th-grade students passed the California High School Exit Exam; 77% of California’s total 10th-graders passed, and 60% of the rest of Lynwood High’s 10th-graders passed.

Sitomer is proud to show that his teaching methods are making a difference. “If I am most proud of anything, it’s my test scores,” Alan says. “I do believe that I can provide teachers with a host of proven, effective, immediately usable materials that will help return them to a position of strength in the classroom.” The BookJam will be available in spring 2009.
