The Alan Sitomer BookJam series launches its latest curriculum product; the American Classics BookJam provides teachers with the tools to engage student readers

Recorded Books K-12, a leading publisher of K-12 education curriculum and the world’s largest independent producer of audiobooks, today announces the launch of the American Classics BookJam, a new reading curriculum product developed for real teachers, by real teachers to increase literacy in middle and high school students.

The American Classics BookJam is the latest addition to the The Alan Sitomer BookJam series, written by high school English teacher Alan Sitomer, former California Teacher of the Year winner (2007) and author of several acclaimed young adult novels.

Sitomer developed the American Classics BookJam to breathe new life into learning classic literature in the 21st century classroom. Teachers can engage students with methods such as assigning a podcast project for “The Great Gatsby” or a short film with “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.”

“These novels have stood the test of time, but they can be daunting to today’s iGeneration students,” says Sitomer. “Technology is a great equalizer in the classroom, as it can engage even the most struggling students in material written before their time and bring a new sense of relevancy to these novels in today’s world. This curriculum product gives teachers the tools necessary to connect students to classic American literature in a fresh new way, all while ingraining in students key analytical skills that can be applied in a standardized test setting.”

Each American Classics Jam includes one American Classics Jam Teacher’s Guide, 30 copies of “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” 30 copies of “The Great Gatsby,” 30 copies of “To Kill a Mockingbird” and one Composition JamBox, which is a collection of standards-based multimedia projects for the classroom.
