The Alan Sitomer BookJam recognized as a leading curriculum tool in K-12 education
Recorded Books K-12, a leading publisher of K-12 education curriculum and the world’s largest independent producer of audiobooks, today announces the recognition of The Alan Sitomer BookJam as a finalist for a prestigious Association of Educational Publishers (AEP) Award.
The AEP awards have been honoring outstanding learning resources for more than 40 years. The Alan Sitomer BookJam is a finalist for a Distinguished Achievement Award in the curriculum category for reading and language arts, grades 6-8.
Designed to increase literacy in middle and high school students, the Alan Sitomer BookJam series is written by high school English teacher Alan Sitomer. This 2007 California Teacher of the Year and acclaimed young adult author drew upon his experience and success in the classroom to create a new way of teaching literature that helps students nail core standards and raise test scores.
“Technology has broken so many barriers for teachers, as we’re now able to share information and ideas like never before thanks to blogs, podcasts and other technology platforms. As educators working toward the same goals, we have a wealth of insight to share with one another and knowledge to gain. This is one of the reasons I created the BookJam -- it enabled me to compile best practices from my own classroom into a curriculum product to help other teachers achieve the same results in their classrooms,” says Sitomer. “It is an honor that AEP recognizes Bookjams’ benefit to educators and students.”
The winners of each award will be announced at the AEP Awards Gala, held as part of the 2010 AEP Summit in Washington, D.C. from June 6th to June 9th.
