Award recognizes The Alan Sitomer BookJam as a leading curriculum tool in grades 6-8 language arts and reading education
Recorded Books K-12 announces The Alan Sitomer BookJam, received a Distinguished Achievement Award (DAA) for Reading and Language Arts Curriculum from the Association of Educational Publishers (AEP). The AEP awards have been honoring outstanding learning resources for more than 40 years, and the DAAs recognize the year's top educational products. The Alan Sitomer BookJam was recognized as one of the top curriculum products for reading and language arts, grades 6-8.

The Alan Sitomer BookJam series includes a variety of installments, each based on a different theme, covering everything from contemporary young adult novels to classic American literature. From the Tough Being a Teen Jam, which includes a selection of books that focus on the hard choices and difficult situations today’s teens often face, to the Funny, Doofy Weirdos Jam, which celebrates the differences that make people truly unique, each installment contains books and themes that will resonate with all types of students. Each BookJam includes a Composition JamBox that provides teachers with new ideas for assignments that will connect with today’s tech-savvy students, such as posting YouTube videos about the book, as well as recording podcasts for book reviews.

Designed to increase literacy in middle and high schools students, The Alan Sitomer BookJam is developed by high school English teacher Alan Sitomer. A 2007 California Teacher of the Year winner and author of several acclaimed young adult novels, Alan draws upon his experience and success in using this new way of teaching literature to help students nail core standards and raise test scores.

“The Alan Sitomer BookJam series has allowed me to share the best practices from my own teaching and create a curriculum product for teachers seeking the same results,” Sitomer said. “These BookJams give students an opportunity to read entertaining books that still touch on morals and reading comprehension. Every book has something else to discover inside, and this curriculum encourages students to find it. It is an honor that AEP recognizes its benefit to educators and students.”
